He is the son of Michael Boddie and Brenda Vick. Michael went to Warwick high school where his football skills were sharpened and he emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the country during his time. During his high school years, he performed exceptionally well by throwing 4,846 yards with 43 touch downs. As a result of these great performances he become a prime candidate for recruitment for college football.As a college senior, in 1999, Michael played his first collegiate game. He successfully completed four passes for 110 yards and three touch downs. During this game he scored one touchdown with a somersault that impressed his fellow teammates and the spectators as well. Michael used his physique t o maneuver the fields with impressive tactics that set records for the schools quarterback. During spring games, he managed to effectively score three of 10 passes; Vick provided the much needed offensive force for the Hokie team that improved on its defense. Throughout his time at Virginia Tech, he successfully led Hokies in as season with numerous wins, which saw the team earn a spot at the Sugar Bowl. The Hokies played against the Florida state, who won the national title game. While at Virginia Tech, he demonstrated creative ways of handling himself at the pitch, which impressed his coaches and teammates.In 2001 Michael played a game between the Virginia Tech and the Clemson. They won the game with a 41-20 score at the Gator Bowl. After this match, Michael Vick was named as one of the most valuable players that the team had. Unfortunately, the promising player injured himself in subsequent seasons, which affected his performance. For the season, Michael did a tremendous job of completing 87 passes for 1,234 yards and 8 touch downs. He played his last college game at the Gator Bowl, where scored 2 touch downs and 205 yards. Vick had a major contribution to winning this game against then Clemson.Michael Vick also had a chance to play with the Hokies against the Florida state, the game was played at the Sugar Bowl and they were competing for the national championship trophy. Although the Hokies played an outstanding game with the help of Vick, they lost the game 46-29. He won the Big East Offensive player of the year honors but he did not win the Heisman Trophy. Vicks remarkable performance and playing tactics earned him points and improved his public profile as a player to look out for. It is during this season that Vick was selected for the Major League Baseball because of his competency in athletics as displayed in all his quarterback matches regardless of whether his team won or not. Although this was a lifetime opportunity, Michael Vick chose to play for the NFL instead of joining the baseball.In 2001 he also chose to forgo his senior years in school in order to have a chance to join the NFL. He publicly announced in the gym and presence of media that he would take up the opportunity to be included in the NFL draft so that he could have a chance to take care of his family. His interest in playing at a professional level saw him being picked as the first priority for the 2001 draft for the Atlanta Falcons After his decision to join NFL, he become the youngest player at 20 years of age to be listed number one in the NFLs draft.
